How to Design Your Own Kilt

| Design

They say, men should never be caught wearing a skirt or else they will be considered gay. However, in Scotland, men who wear a kilt, which is a skirt, are macho and very manly. This is a Scottish traditional costume that has been worm one generation to the next. The kilt is made out of nine yards of tartan cloth. It is a wrapped skirt with the front apron which has two overlapping panels. The back part consists of many pleats.

To start making your own kilt, you need to know how many meters of material you will need. A single pleat should have a width of a full set accompanied by a regular one inch pleat showing. If you would want your sett to be 8 inches in length, then one pleat should be 9 inches. The measurement of your waist and hip is very important to determine how many meters of cloth you will need, and how many pleats you need to make. You need to measure from the waist to the middle of the knee to calculate the length of your kilt. Make sure you have an allowance of a few inches when you measure. The selvage side should go to the lower hem.

Cut the cloth into two pieces to the size specified above. Sew them together. Stitch zigzag style and serge in the upper side of the cloth. The tartan should be centered correctly to make sure that the buckle is on the right side. Start with a fold of 6 inches and then create a deep double width pleat on the left. Use safety pins to fasten the folds. Do the same on the inside of the apron.

Use a piece of cardboard to pleat the kilt and duplicate the pattern on the tartan. Stitch using the felling method. When sewing, start at the hips and then to the top edge of the pleats. Add fringe and waistband. You can use 3 to 5 inches wide cloth to do this. For the lining, deeply sew this down the pleat. You can buy the accessories …

| Design, Product Design

Sport utility vehicles are popular for its bigger size, spacious seats, and adventurous image. It is a favorite among field professionals and hobbyists. It has transformed conventional car driving into recreational activity for bigger families.

Its popularity goes along with the increase of fatalities on road accidents as reported by National Highway Traffic Safety. The annual rate for SUV roll over accident hints a pervasive danger of its design.

SUV has a taller structure and high center of gravity. Its design makes it susceptible to tripping when a driver exceeds speed limit and hit a road object. Slippery and curve roadway triggers a SUV to overturn.

Drivers of SUV have reported that it fails to stop upon approaching another vehicle or road obstruction.

If you encountered similar trouble with SUV and has suffered injuries because of its design defect, you may file a Product Liability claim.

Product liability allows you to litigate your complaints and recover damages for your losses.

You can establish the design defect by:

  1. Show photos from the accident
  2. Present expert opinion of engineers and professionals on the hazard of the SUV.
  3. Prove that you have not violated traffic rules that may cause the accident
  4. Show evidence that the accident was caused by its inherent dangerous design and such resulted to your injuries.
  5. Present medical records
  6. Show purchase agreement, warranty, insurance policy, and pertinent vehicle documents.

You can also establish other theories of product liability such as manufacturing defect and marketing defect.

Manufacturing defect refers to the error during the production stage. The owner fails to

uphold quality and safety standards mandated by existing federal and state laws.

It is also the failure to produce effective parts that will stand extreme road condition.

For example: A manufacturer has the responsibility to ensure that its car roof can protect occupants during a roll over crash so as to prevent spinal cord injury.

Marketing defect- The manufacturer is mandated to publish information on the potential or known hazards of an SUV. Warning labels and User guide should be made available to inform the customer on the proper handling of …

Are you getting tired of your boring bedroom? Are you decorating a baby’s nursery or your teenage daughter’s bedroom? These are some tips that can be used in the bedroom of someone of any age.

First of all, if you are redecorating, you need to determine what has to stay and what you would like to see go out the door. Paint and bedding are easy to replace, but flooring and furniture are not so easy to get rid of. Then you are going to need to determine a theme that will work with what you are keeping in the room, or a feeling you would like to create. Do you want to bring the relaxing ocean to your sanctuary, or perhaps a more sophisticated feel?

You will need to figure out a budget next. What are you going to spend the budget on? Perhaps you are going to keep the bed and nightstands you already have, as well as the hardwood flooring, but would like to buy an area rug and maybe a chair for the seating area.

Determine a layout and what you have room for. Remember, you are going to need to be able to walk around the bed; don’t place anything in the way of getting to the other side! Beds are best centered on something, whether it is a window or a blank wall. Nightstands can be placed on either side of it, if there is room.

Lighting is also important to figure out right away; it affects how everything is going to look in the room. Are you going to keep the fixture you have, or replace it with something that better fits your theme? Do you have a lot of natural light coming in, or would you like to keep the windows covered?

Next, you are going to want to go shopping. Buy the most important features of the room first-flooring, furniture, lighting…

The fun part is selecting the bedding and window treatments. Remember, colors and patterns are important when it comes to sticking to your theme. Ask for the opinions of the …

Top Four Custom Business Suit Designers for Women

| Design

There has always been a notion that you are what you wear. Deals are thought to be made or broken based on the clothes a person wears. Some even say that certain colors mean different things.
clothes that suit your frame and personality is one key to having confidence. Ill fitting clothes can be a distraction just as much as inappropriate clothing for the occasion. We have scoured the globe to find four designers who make custom suits for women.

1. Moi-Meme was started by Dawn Verbrigghe in 2006. They focus on your body type, work environment and the goals of the person. They have a show room in New York City where a person can get measured and see ideas of what’s available. Moi-Meme has been featured in many major magazines. One of their unique qualities is that they are specifically for women. The only drawback is that you must be measured by their tailor in their NYC store in order to buy a suit. You can purchase custom pants, shirts and skirts online.

2. Tom James is the world’s largest manufacturer and retailer of custom clothing. They have offices in 45 states and a show room in NYC. The difference with Tom James is they send a a consultant to you. No trying to fly to NYC or having your kid take your measurements is necessary. Tom James wants to be your full clothier, so they also offer casual clothing. They have an 80% repeat business on a yearly basis to keep you in style whatever the season or occasion.

3. Raja Fashions in Hong Kong has over 25,000 material choices. Women wanting custom suits make an appointment with one of their advisers, have their measurements taken and then choose what they want made. They tend to focus on the major cities, so a person might have to travel to get to their appointment, which is generally in a hotel over a select period. They will even copy items from magazines. Their suits range from $350 to $5,000 depending on the material choice and style.

4. Bluesuits make their custom clothing right in the NYC. One of their …

Best YouTube Videos for Artists

| Design

There is lots of material yielding artistic inspiration on YouTube. Here’s a list of a few of my favorites, and I hope they bend your brain into a pretzel. (Or whatever other shape you may desire.) I have listed the links for them at the end of this article. If those don’t work, you’ll have to trash around on YouTube and find them, using the key words I have provided. Happy hunting …

My first favorite video is of Picasso painting. This is an amazing video – the cameraman is on one side of a pane of glass, with Picasso and his paints on the other. During the filming, he kids around with the cameraman and peers through different sections of the painting. To track down this video, you could just key in “Picasso painting on glass.” There are a few videos of him painting, actually, all of them great, but this one is the best.

Second would be a video called “Latte Art,” and I suggest you search for it using those key words. I’m guessing it was produced by a very bored Starbucks barista who was making his 1,000,000th latte. All I can say is, it’s amazing what you can do with some coffee, steamed milk, whipped cream and a bit of chocolate syrup. You’ll see bunnies, butterflies, hearts and lots of other kaleidoscopic designs. This coffee addict would like you to check it out!

Third I would recommend “Extreme Sheep LED Art,” by the Baa Studs. What do you get when you cross some Welsh filmmakers with some bored shepherds and a flock of very compliant sheep? Sheep covered with Christmas lights making strange patterns on the hills. Check out the “Mona Lisa” by “Leonardo Baa-Vinci.” That’s it … I’m calling the ASPCA …

Fourth – check out Los Angeles sculptor Bruce Gray’s “California Dreamin – kinetic motorized rolling ball art,” which is a type of Rube Goldberg-ian contraption that draws a metal ball through a twisty, turning sculpture, making music all the while. It is mesmerizing and fun. Key in “Bruce Gray” to hunt this one down.…
